Canoe Trip

Yesterday, I just got back from camping in Arkansas. Surprisingly to me, Arkansas has some of the most beautiful country in this region of the United States. The terrain is very hilly and abounds with trees.

I arrived in Arkansas on Monday, and camped at Tyler Bend State Park both Monday and Tuesday nights. Then on Wednesday we began a two day, twenty-six mile canoe trip. Saying that I am sore is an understatement. I rode in the back of the canoe both days which means that I was the one doing the majority of the work. It was enjoyable doing all the work, but it was also very tiring. Wednesday night, when we camped on a gravel bar beside the river, I had no trouble falling asleep despite the obvious uncomfortability of laying upon rocks. I attribute this sound slumber to my exhaustion after having canoed 14 miles on wednesday.

Still sore, everybody canoed the remaining 12 miles with relative ease and we pulled in at about 2:30 thursday afternoon. After beaching our canoes, we packed up our gear and set out for KC. The trip was spectacular and certainly will be one of the best experiences of the summer.

I went into the Jungle and came out a rich man

Lawrence, parting will be such sweet sorrow.

Hoping this summer will bring money and stories. There is no doubt in my mind that coming back to Omaha will be a good homecoming, but piece by piece, my heart is dropping itself here in Lawrence, Kansas.

I'm looking forward to seeing everybody once again, but I won't be back until about may 28-ish. We still have another week of school left after this one and then finals, then it is off to Rocky Mountain National Park for me. I will be camping for a week, and then I will be home.

Freshman year of college has been amazingly eventful and it has changed me in ways I never would've thought possible. I really hope that all of you have been able to have a similarly spectacular experience.

See you soon.
