Ace of Bass and Aerospace

Whatever you do, make sure you do it well. Even if it's illegal. Just do it well.

Now that we have that said, I can begin to blog bitches!

Well, I am slowly and steadily spending lots of money to be in Glee Club. Yes, I love singing, and I can't wait to go to California over Christmas, but there is a price involved. Something exciting about glee club is that I will soon be singing a quartet, which is pretty exciting considering in all the music we have played thus far, my voice has been drowned out by the choir of nearly sixty men. So in this piece, when the audience hears the bass part, they are hearing me, and only me. This is a responsibility, but it is exciting as well, because I will actually have to apply myself and my beautiful voice.

On another note, I aced my aerospace test I took on friday. I was excited because I only got a 99 on my last test, and now with the 100, I can do whatever I want in the class and get away with it (behavior-wise). "What's that Dr. Downing, oh yeah, I aced you last two tests! What now!"

Working out has become one of my favorite hobbies. Me and a couple Theta Chi's (Andrew and Murtazza) from my floor go work out every night, and although we aren't buff yet, we will be, and sexy we will be as well!

I have found a new hobby--throwing things out the sixth floor study room window. It's more fun than you can imagine, especially when there are people down on the ground that aren't expecting something to come flying out the window. Saturday night I shook up a pop can and threw it out the window near some people smoking. I quickly closed the window and retreated to another room to watch the people's reaction. It was hilarious. For ten minutes, they were investigating the incident, looking up at the building, and looking baffled. The night before, my friend Andrew threw the study room trash can out of the window. I almost crapped myself then. Funny stuff. Funny stuff indeed.

Oh by the way, I'm not coming up to Omaha this weekend, but my friend, Aaron Couch is going to be playing with his band, The Raging Hormones, at the Rock on Friday. He is the guitarist and his band is playing fourth. I urge you all to go and support him and his band. They and especially Aaron are really cool. Maybe drop my name and you will have a good gossip/conversation.

Don't drink ROBERT EVANS whiskey!!!

Here is a tale that should make you never want to drink (cheap whiskey) excessively ever again.

It was a wednesday night worth celebrating. I had just finished my Calc Midterm, and I was ready to let the weekend start, so James, Andrew and I went in on a handle of the cheapest whiskey we could find. The cheapest whiskey we could find just so happened to be Robert Evans Whiskey (aka the grossest shit ever). When the clock struck 9:30, we took our first shot. At the instant it hit our tongue, we knew we were going to have a very rough night. After three shots, we were feelin' it a lot more than we should have. It was bizarre.

After a relatively small amount of alcohol, everybody was nearly gone. The last thing i can remember is walking into the room that was our drinking venue, seeing our RA, and taking another shot.

The next thing I know, it's 8:30 in the morning, I'm still not completely sober, and I'm on someone else's futon. I felt my eyes to see if I had fallen asleep in my contacts, but I had changed into my glasses.

I returned to my room to go to sleep, and I woke up at 11:30 with the biggest hangover of my life and I just noticed that my legs had been partially shaved.
It was a rough night and an even rougher morning/afternoon/early evening, but I learned my lesson. Never, not even in dire circumstances, should anyone with a beating heart drink the vile, disgusting poison that is Robert Evans whiskey.

P.S. One of my friends, Eric, was duct taped to a futon after passing out and should be featured on collegehumor.com sometime soon.

Late Night (and early morning) in the Phog

So, um, yeah, last night was definitely Late Night in the Phog, which is when the NCAA allows the basketball teams to start practicing. So what KU does is make an event out of the first practice by having all this hype from about 8 pm to midnight, then at midnight the basketball team conducts its first practice.

Late Night in the Phog takes place in Allen Fieldhouse, and there is always a full stadium with over 16,000 people attending. The thing that was particularly cool about Late Night is that the KU Men's Glee Club, which I am a part of, was chosen to sing the KU fight songs before the basketball team got on the floor. Singing in front of that many people has to be one of the coolest things ever, even if you are part of a choir with 40 other guys. The roar of the screams after we performed the Rock Chalk Chant was enough to vibrate the paint off walls. It was insane. And with KU ranked in the top 5 coming into this year, you can be assured that it will only get crazier. And yeah, on a side note, I was definitely five feet away from Danny Manning at one point in the night. Frickin' amazing.

The early morning in the Phog was spent cleaning the place up. Men's Glee Club was chosen to clean up the Fieldhouse after the event for a cool sum of 2,000 dollars. This money will go to help fund our christmas break cali trip, so we have less to pay out of pocket. So we stayed in the arena from 1 am to 7:30 am making the place look like it had never been used. It was a bitch, and by the end of the night essentially all of the blue paint from the broom handle I was using was transferred onto my hands, but it went to a cause that I have an extreme vested interest in, so I didn't bitch once. I just woke up an hour and a half ago by the way. And now, as so eloquently spoken by the beloved Andrew WK, it's time to party!

And Down They Came

So yeah, I definitely went to the KU football game on the 8th, and it was awesome!!!!!! It was KU against K-State, and it was homecoming as well. The 'Hawks hadn't beaten the 'Cats in over 11 years, and there was a profound amount of optimism surrounding the game. There was also one stipulation: If KU won, both goal posts were coming down, and they were going to be thrown in Potter's Lake. Well, after an eventful and very close game, KU won, and the rest of the cards fell into their places. Four seconds before the game was over, I, along with hundreds of others, jumped onto the track in anticipation of the impending victory of KU. Some people actually pushed their way onto the field, and they were urged to get back onto the rubber of the track. Luckily, they did get back onto the track, and 4 seconds later rushed straight to the goal post in the thousands.
I was part of this crowd, and I have to say, this was the craziest mass of people I have ever been in. The force with which the mass was pushing was enough to knock anyone off his or her feet, except there were so many people pushing in all directions, that you could almost lift both feet off the ground and still be held up by friction. When the goalpost came down, I grabbed the hole where one of the uprights had broken off and was pretty much taken for a ride up Campanile hill to Potter's Lake. The sharp edges of the hole tore up my fingers, but left me with battle scars that will make sure I never forget this awesome occasion.
When we reached the lake, the goal post was lifted forward and hurled into the water. Following the goal post into the pond were many crazed fans who didn't want to leave their beloved goal post. One thing they did want to leave behind, though, was their clothes. Unfortunately, I was not part of this part of the celebration, but I did leave the area with a feeling of utter enjoyment and a scar to always remind me of that historical night.

High Flying Adore

No, I didn't watch Evita this weekend, but I did get to go to the K State Salina Campus and fly a small airplane. It was da bomb diggity.

We left at 6 in the morning saturday to go to Salina, KS, where we would be flying Cessna 172's. After flying in the Cessna's, we headed to Hutchinson, KS, where the Cosmosphere resides. The Cosmosphere is basically just a museum of aerospace history, but it's pretty cool. We arrived back in Lawrence at 8, and I proceeded to get trashed later. Yeah right, i wouldn't do something like that. Anyway, the best part of the trip was that it was a good bonding experience with some of the people in my major. Yes, there were girls there despite the masculinity of the major.

Other than that my week has been very boring. I just had a chemistry test today that I probably aced even though I haven't been to class at all. Booyakasha! Oh, speaking of Booyakasha, I just saw the Ali-G show for the first time yesterday. Fricking hilarious! He interviewed Buzz Aldrin and called him Buzz Lightyear. Fricking hilarious! I almost peed my pants when he had a roundtable discussion about religion. The Catholic Priest was very upset.

Anyway, I don't have anything else good to say and it's one o'clock and i have a 7:30 lab tomorrow. Fuck.
