Yo so look what movies are coming out this summer:
Spiderman 3 - May 4
Shrek 3 - May 18
Pirates of Caribbean 3 - May 25
Ocean’s Eleven 3 - June 8
Back Door Sluts 9 - July 4
Bourne Identity 3 - August 3
Rush Hour 3 - August 10
The next few months promise to be a trilogy fan's wet dream. What is the WT consensus on trilogies? Are they awesome because the first two movies were awesome? Or are the innovations made by the first two parts of the series always a let down the third time around? Does a good idea or fun novelty that makes a movie awesome go bad when stretched over three movies? For example the Matrix was sweet because it had karate and special effects. Matrix II also had karate and even sweeter special effects. Matrix III tried the same trick again but I remember feeling nothing when I saw it, probably because I'd seen two better versions of the same thing. Austin Powers is a good example of how a comedy gets watered down by the third film. Each Austin Powers movie had entire scenes devoted to a different form of the same joke. The best example is the Dr. Evil "Shhh. Shhh. Shhh." (AP 1) "Zip it. Zip it. Zip it." (AP 2) "Au-ya-dow-ga-bi" (AP 3) joke where he keeps yelling the same thing at Scotty. The joke was funny every time, but by the end it became literal gibberish. But so what, right? If they made a Matrix 4 or Austin Powers 4 I'd definitely see them at some point.
Still, the movie gets worse each time you make it so why are we seeing so many trilogies? The movie makers' shocking trend makes one think about the future. How far can America go with this formula for monkey making? Is money the sole reason a movie can make it to a third chapter? What does that say about film as an art form? How long before we see more 3rd, 4th, and 5th movie sequels? That's a scary thought. If money is zero sum then only a certain amount of movies can be made which means inevitably the world will see less originals. This could be miserable for concept-representation parity. The upside is if you ever come up with a winning idea you can squeeze at least three movies out of it.
I hope this is a good enough blog topic because I miss hearing from everybody. I love my Wandy brothers and sisters very much. Summer is coming. Let's plan a bash. Until then I'm 10x excited to get this mix cd, Timmy. Music is always best when you can connect it to a person. Aren't there online groups you can join where you just send each other mix cds? I should join one of those, or if my dream came true Wandy would turn into one. Let's do it! Start throwing your addresses around so we can get our mix on.
Not sure if anyone read the play, but to give you some idea of what it's like I'm describing it as the exact opposite of this poem:
No One Puts Out Match Fires
Watch the match burn, diminished by the blaze. The fire is a woman. The stick stretches his body toward the growing glint. He grasps her warmth as affection. She dances with wide hips, flutters like a firm kiss turned soft. Kindle, kindle. Holding his love, she culls God's gaze with a flick, urgent, like the eyes of a cat. The match blackens and busts beneath flame, alone.
I loooove this poem. Written in January of last year.
I've been listening to a lot of Eminem lately. Mostly The Eminem Show, MM LP, and a little bit of Curtain Call. He is unquestionably the best rapper ever. He's the illest rhyme sayer, plus he played the white card really really well. I think my thought process speeds up after listening to him because of the fast pace of his incredible story telling.
