Quick breakdown
My 20th birthday came and went with some fun fanfare, including a party in my room which Jeff has pictures of but I am too lazy to get from him so they will therefore not be posted. However, feel free to check out this gift:

That would be a postcard from their tour last year mysteriously stolen from my wall and then returned as a birthday card from Jenny Lewis herself, courtesy of Monica who had the pleasure of interviewing/getting drunk with her (this operation took place during the latter half of that binary). I think what really enthralls me about this sort of thing is not the "ooh wow signature" aspect so much as the making a celebrity (or at least as much a celebrity as Lewis could be qualified as) participate in a personally concocted madcap scheme. Perhaps David Cross would like to join us as a founding member of the Rules Club?
Even more exciting is that I have obtained the first step on the path to a killer Cinema Studies resume, and scored myself a job at the nearby Kims Video, the most famous/snotty indie video store in NYC. Basically I am paid to watch movies all all day long.
While it doesn't pay much at all, as you can see from the selection of titles it's been crucial in developing a further sense of intertextuality for writing, filmmaking or basically any sort of work in the field of film. And I have my pride and joy, the employee pick section where each of the four employees chooses four non-auteur movies:

Tommy would be proud, as I am officially repping two classics from Dave's basement that have now made the leap to the big time. The Skateboard Kid turns out to be a big favorite of the manager, and he and I spent a good while discussing the merits of the film (such as the fact that the dog on the skateboard on the box never appears in the film) and its disappointing sequel, which lacked the voice talents of Dom DeLuise.
Tonight I will actually fulfill the short film dare placed to me by another employee, just in time for Halloween. I think you will enjoy the results.

Posted by: jayme at October 31, 2005 3:26 PMI may or may not have that movie (skateboard kid)...I believe that the trash kittens are one of the most underrated bands in the history of the world.
Did you guys also discuss the awesome fantastic 4 trailer?
Also, I never got the privelege of seeing stylewars, but Tommy tells me there is a charactor that is similar to me or something along those lines.
Posted by: rob at October 31, 2005 9:44 PMAnd to think, those poor little indie kids in new york would have no knowledge of skateboard kid if Dave hadn't received it anonymously in a white elephant gift exchange.
