they carved the message deep within

Well my summertime laziness is quickly coming to an end, as my internship at infoUSA is starting next Tuesday. It's most definitely bittersweet...I haven't done this much of nothing in a long, long time and I'm really enjoying. On the other hand, I need money and some excuse to leave my house for longer than an hour at a time.

I'm up to 16 DVDs watched on my Blockbuster Movie Pass. That's like a 70 dollar value and I've still got another half month left.

Two weeks from yesterday I'm hopping on a jet plane for Chicago. Motion City Soundtrack is playing a record release show with Jack's Mannequin (Andrew from Something Corporate's side project) and the Get-Up Kids are playing one of their final shows ever with Straylight Run as an opener. Also awaiting me in Chicago is a Cubs game on either that Wednesday or Thursday. I'm effing stoked.

Anybody get the new Dave CD? My feelings are mixed since it's such a different album from everything else they've done. I'm gonna need a few more listens to formulate an opinion.

keep your voices down

Boring Bryant update:

I've been in Omaha for the last week and have pretty much done nothing at all. The last couple of weeks at college were crazy fun and less stressful than imagined and I'm following it up with pure laziness. I finally have my own room in the Bone house for the first time ever and am enjoying it to the fullest extent. It's pretty kickass. I'm getting warmed up for next year I guess.

This morning I woke up to discover that I am indeed keeping my scholarship after a rough first semester, and have a ton of breathing room over the required GPA. High-five to self for at least one more free year...

Blockbuster has this deal where you can rent unlimited movies, so I'm into that now. It's my goal to watch at least 30-40 movies in the next few months.

In music related news...Days Away is a cool mellow band with a helluva lotta talent. Look 'em up or steal their new CD Mapping an Invisible World. They are cool.

i keep telling myself

The internet is pretty effin' cool, and there's not a lot about it that bothers me...but one of its shortcomings has been fleshed out recently, causing Mr. Sisson to close the comments section on my blog.

The problem lies within the speed at which people can respond or communicate thoughts/ideas and not wielding the maturity or foresight to handle said speed. If something pisses me off I can have an instant message, e-mail, blog or website constructed in a near instant. This is a blessing because people can communicate across the world in real-time through different forms of electronic media, but it's also a curse because actions aren't always thought out to the fullest extent and more often than not, intelligent discussion is left by the wayside and vulgar insults ensue.

Clearly, this has been a problem on CR since its inception. I blew up at the college girls when they showed up on the scene and slammed Dave regarding the deliciousness of Cedric and Omar. I have now realized such quickly formulated expressions of disagreement and anger weren't best for the internet, or at least not in the unbridled way I was going about it. A similar situation has arisen within the last week, as well. Someone got angry, posted an uncouth list of insults and expected the same thing back. Well Bryant has grown up (only a little bit, I promise) and realized that when a discussion starts in the shitter, it's probably not going to get any better.

That's all I've got.

By the way, school is out.

me and k.g., we were fucking born with it

I'm 100% pure awesome and anyone who says otherwise is probably just a filthy liar.

Because of this fact, I urge all friendly readers to follow a simple request: stop the flame wars in my comments. If we don't respond, not only are we saving precious time but we're also giving the internet flamers less to burn, so to speak.

Thanks, and enjoy the rest of your time here on CombatRhino.
