as young as i was, i felt older back then

During the last week I think I've pinpointed my college dilemma. In high school we (or at least I) did relatively little work for the success we achieved. Our small amount of effort produced excellent test scores and impressive GPA's that earned a lot of us high-paying scholarships or admittance to prestigious universities. The problem is though, that I didn't do much to get to where I am, and now suddenly I've got to do actual work to keep college free. And boy do I hate work. The struggle continues...

Speaking of college, check out my schedule for next semester:

I'm going to enjoy those 11:30 days a lot.

Everyone seems to be visiting high school again. I refuse to. The motivation for a lot of people seems to be getting to have the question of "How is college?" asked and answering with the typical "Oh good! I'm having a ton of fun." At least that's how it was whenever people visited during my stay there.

Last week I ran a 6 mile race after maybe running six miles in two weeks. It was a ton of fun and pain. Plus I rocked like 3,200 people and got to hang out with this guy:

Seinfeld comes out on DVD today I'll have to see about getting that.

I'm out like a boner in sweatpants.

maybe he won't find out what i know

Hmmm. What has happened in the last 13 days? Not a whole lot.

Next week I'm headed to Sioux Falls for Thanksgiving, that's kind of exciting. It's about time I see my extended family. It's been months and months which seems like a lot to me.

Where else are my travels taking me? Hmmm...there is talk of a Bone migration to Chicago or New York next summer to see the Cubs play either the Red Sox or the Yankees. Those would blow my mind.

The Bone-Man started running again recently. Since college, I've put on about seven or eight pounds. Running will be good for me.

As for the last entry, I'm done with political stuff for awhile., at least until something warrants my comment. Before I bid farewell to politics though, I'm giving a big "w-e-r-d" to Jeff's last comment. And that's that.

meh

The CombatRhino landscape is being littered with political commentary and I'm willing to throw my hat into the ring too.

It appears that Bush won this year without any shenanigans, giving him a fair control of the White House. Bush can thank 11 states, including Ohio, that got out the conservative vote by putting a gay marriage bans on the ballot. Had this not been on the ballot, Kerry probably would've swung Ohio.

Regardless, Bush is the president through 2008 and there's really nothing any of us can do about it but hope and pray for him to give up incredibly conservative agenda for something a bit more reasonable. Here's what I think Bush can do to make the next term better than the last.

The first thing Bush needs to do is get his foreign policy under control. He expects to end terrorism and hostility by responding with the might of the U.S. military. Sorry Dubs, attacking Iraq isn't going to do it, you're only throwing fuel on the anti-American fire.

Second, without the need for his conservative base in future elections, perhaps he'll ease up on the religious agenda. Using the Bible as the basis for legislation is hauntingly Taliban-esque. The Bible isn't a weapon, and I'm afraid of what our nation will become if the right continues to use it as one.

There is a bright side in all of this though. It's very likely Bush will fuck the country up SO much that by 2008, the Democratic ticket will be the only reasonable choice. The Republican party could also be well-served from the anticipated fuck-up, causing a backlash that would force the party to move to it's more traditionally moderate origins.

If nothing else, the next four years should prove to be full of the hilarious and inarticulate speeches, and plenty of bashing on the internets.

you just can't relax

This weekend I went to see Straylight Run with my brother, Dylan and Lena in Des Moines. It far exceeded my expectations. While I really like the band, I didn't expect them to be as good live as on their CD. Thanks though to a true-to-recording performance and a contagiously enthusiastic band, they were. Here's the setlist only Dave J will appreciate:

Dignity and Money
Another Word for Desperate
Your Name Here
The Tension and the Terror
Toolsheds and Hot Tubs
A Slow Descent
The Perfect Ending
Existentialism on Prom Night
It's For the Best
Mistakes We Knew We Were Making
Sympathy for the Martyr

At the concert, I unintentionally ran into Annie who claims to be a friend of Erik's. She's a blog reader on CombatRhino I guess. How random.

Speaking of blog readers, Dave J's webpresence is well-known at NYU, but I'm not so sure CombatRhino has the same prevalence at UNL. While we have many CR bloggers here in Lincoln, I don't think that many new readers exist.

With the election tomorrow, I'd really like to make some politically controversial statement, but nothing comes to mind. If you think of something feel free to drop it in the comment area.
