keep watch for the dawn to break

Due to the snow day and the economics field trip I went on with Mr. C, by the end of today, I'll have spent only five hours at school this week.

I'm feeling the workout from yesterday. I cranked one of the treadmills in the weight room up to its highest speed setting and steepest incline and ran on it for several intervals.

Show choir will once again rule my life this weekend. For real, it's a cult.

January 28, 2004

it's coming

Oh man, it should be here by Saturday.

January 27, 2004

the music ignites the night with passionate fire

I have two feminine confessions to make. Number one: I went to see Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!, actually wanted to see it and found myself disappointed with the film. Number two: I posted a song from my favorite musical, Rent. It's not wrong to post songs, but I think only feminine dudes enjoy musicals.

Lost In Translation comes out next Tuesday on DVD. I'm hoping I can scrounge up enough cash to go buy it.

When school has the chance of being cancelled I always predict that we'll have school. People think I'm a pessimist, but really I'm just setting my goals/hopes low so that no matter what happens, I'm not disappointed.

January 25, 2004

this take is harder than the old and new combined

According to the results of our latest competition, ATSC is the best show choir in Nebraska. We also won best band...led by the one and only Bone 2.0. Hell yeah.

There was a rockin' CombatRhino gathering after our first performance w/ Jon H and Laura H along w/ Drew B, Bobby L and I. I felt like a huge internet dork. Whatev.

January 23, 2004

it's not that you lied to us

My final blood test came back today. Turns out I had mono during the cross country season, explaining my less-than-satisfactory times at meets. I'd be pissed off if I found this out a month ago but now I'm over it. A 4:40 mile w/ mono is pretty sweet though...

Tonight Bone 2.0 and his crew were practicing for the Winter Formal Cover Wars. They're doing the Midtown song to the left. I have no intention of going to Winter Formal other than to support my bro in his cover war. Check out the tune, my bro's band rocks almost as hard as Midtown.

Joel was right, the other blog was too depressing. So I changed the design. I hope you don't hate it.

Show choir tomorrow. Woot. Or something.

bury me in memories of ck1

I wrote this for a scholarship, and I've got nothing better to post (although I think this is rock solid):

An issue that has taken the nation by storm in the past few months is that of homosexual unions sponsored by state governments. Many states have various proposals in their legislatures either banning or allowing such unions. Vermont’s legislature, in a move more liberal than most, has even gone as far as to allow homosexual marriage.
The problem is rooted in different religious and constitutional views of the issue; allowing the unions violates the religious beliefs of many Americans. However, the fact remains that church and state are separated in the United States. The beliefs of any number of churches should not dictate government policy.
Marriage is comprised of two elements. The first is registration with the government via a marriage license. The license is essentially a piece of paper that signifies a legal union between two individuals. With this, a married couple qualifies for numerous benefits: tax breaks, health insurance, etc. The second component of marriage (one not required for the aforementioned benefits) is the religious blessing. Currently, some religious groups sanction same-sex marriages; others refuse to recognize them, many condemning them as violating religious law.
Same-sex unions should be allowed. From a constitutional standpoint, such a practice would be non-discriminatory and inclusive, two characteristics inherent in the U.S. Constitution’s equal protection clause. Religious institutions would retain the right to recognize or reject the marriages, and the separation of church and state would be preserved.
Not only does this solution make sense religiously, economically and constitutionally, it extends basic rights to gay and lesbian couples while protecting the religious freedom every American holds dear.

slowly dying

Well it looks like the Bone computer is on its last leg. It's lasted us five solid years and it's time to say goodbye, since the hard drive isn't working anymore. Probably going to get something along the lines of a Power Mac G5. I guess Jeff is the only one who'll dig that, since I think everyone else uses Windows.

You know those glasses I thought you'd be "t0t jeal" of? Well I'm not sure I like them. Maybe they'll grow on me. Maybe you'll make fun of me. Maybe I'll find something to drink under the kitchen sink. I don't know for sure.

The MLK fiasco is so far out of hand, I refuse to discuss it anymore.

January 19, 2004

rock and roll is just rock and roll

Back from my first visit to Chicago this year. I calculated that I'll be in Chicago three times in as many months this Winter/Spring...whatever season it is. Not a bad thing though, since Chicago is a kickin' town.

Just as it's acknowledged that I rock and most everyone else sucks, the copying thing is moot to me.

MLK. I want details. I was listening attending an address at the University of Chicago which I'm sure was exponentially more enlightening than anything the dimwits in the WHS administration could plan. A sidenote, when in Chicago I stayed in the church that MLK had his Chicago office in which was incredibly awesome.

I'm getting new emo-glasses that you should all be "t0t jeal" of.

January 16, 2004

what's it all about?

What I'm Listening To: 311 - Unity.

The Bone-Man is the first third-party blogger on CombatRhino. It doesn't get more original than that, you sluts.

Colleges need to be more discreet in their acceptance letters. I just got one that says "CONGRATULATIONS!" right on the front of it. Let me be surprised when I open it, because that's just crap.

I'm in Chicago until Monday evening. That means I'm missing the shoddily arranged sit-in. Damn.

January 14, 2004

yeah...

I guess 5-10 minutes was all the time the packet was going to be on the internet.

The greatest blog of all-time was silenced by Pops. He's afraid he's going to get in trouble for something he didn't give me. I still have in my posession the MLK packet. If you want to see it...ask me for the pics or physical packet. But no more shots at Tiffany Niver and her horrid packet, at least on this site.

5-10 minutes! that's all!

Due to popular demand, the genius of the MLK packet is now on the web...see above blog for fate of the pictures.

After a short internet search, I discovered most worksheets could be found at: http://www.teach-nology.com/worksheets/misc/mlk/

Also, if you want some a quality song, click here.

last call, kill it

What I'm Listening To: Every Time I Die - Elaborama.

An unnamed overachiever has made a packet for MLK day at Westside. To her dismay, it's third grade workbook material and the administration quickly confiscated them all. Except for one. In my posession. I now am faced with two hilarious options:

1) Make numerous copies and distribute them around the school to piss of administration as much as possible.

2) Send packets to various news organizations in the Omaha area, showing them the façade our MLK "celebration" really is.

Are either of these good ideas? Let me know, time is of the essence.

January 12, 2004

this is a rock and roll takeover

Aww snap. Check this shat out, pics straight from this weekend's show choir trip. There are a few hilarious ones in the collection that even Bobby might get.

PICTURES ARE OFF THE WEB.

January 9, 2004

man your own jackhammer

There was a time when my blogs had their own flavor and sense of originality. For reasons known and unknown, they've lost their rock-ness and spice they once were full of.

I'm taking a break. I might be back on Monday with something moderately entertaining. I know soon though, what I have made awesome and cutting-edge will be commonplace. Whatever. I'm gone for a while.

January 8, 2004

if you're going my way

What I'm Listening To: Tom Cochrane - Life is a Highway. I re-discovered this early nineties masterpiece this week. Ha, masterpiece.

The transition into school has been much easier than I thought it would be. I'm getting most of my homework done at school so my evenings are less stressful. The completion of most of my Senior Project has been relieving as well. The next couple of months look to be fairly easy-going.

Today in French and Prob/Stat people argued with the teachers about material they were teaching. This blows my mind. The thought that a student could somehow know more on a subject that a teacher is ridiculous. Shut up and learn you jackasses.

J-Sizzy, Shafster, Bone 2.0 and I made up a new letter for the alphabet. Jeff told me he was going to devote a portion of his blog on the letter, how it's pronounced, words it is in and possibly even a computer font including the new addition. Dig?

January 7, 2004

hot damn

Reaction Paper done.

Can you say rock? Because you'll need to use that word to describe me.

i don't mind you coming here

What I'm Listening To: The Cars - Just What I Needed.

The mysterious camera got developed. The person who had the camera before me was nothing more than an awful aspiring nature photographer.

How come it has to be zero degrees outside? It's really frickin' cold and no one likes it. Maybe I'll move to Florida or something. Oh wait...I didn't apply to any colleges there. Damnit.

There is this band Bright Eyes that is incredibly popular with kids at our school, in fact, you might be one of them. I think that people like them more because they're cool to like rather than liking them for their rock-ness. I listened to their stuff (really it's one guy w/ a rotating band), and wasn't too impressed. But that's just me.

January 6, 2004

oh yeah

I'm dropping French. Pops is letting me. For the first time in five and a half years, I will not be studying the French language. I'm excited and somewhat saddened all at the same time.

New plan. As soon as more foolios modify the look of their blog, we will have a contest for blog content as well as blog design. We will most certainly have to find judges with impeccable web-style so that the judging is fair for the design, and people who know what's cool for the content portion of the contest.

I don't care if people comment on my blog EVERY time or not, I am just aware of about five people I can name off of the top of my head who have mentioned in passing they read my blog who have never commented.

January 5, 2004

we never compromised

What I'm Listening To: The Verve Pipe - The Freshmen.

My last few blogs have been about updates. Once again, I updated adding the July blogs in with the entire month of August now complete. If the June ones turn up...they'll go up too.

Break evaluation: awesome. I can't imagine how it could've gone any better. The thing I was really dreading, having my wisdom teeth pulled, wasn't bad at all. The operation took ten minutes, I didn't require stitches and I was back to my normal self in under 24 hours. Ski trip rocked too, along with the lazy days that accompany every break.

My Brit Lit is done badly, but I couldn't care less.

COYO is going to New York this summer for our mission trip. It will most definitely be a good time.

My comment level is dwindling, but I trust there are readers out there.

January 4, 2004

bring her a star

It snowed 24 hours too early. If this snow would've come tonight, there'd be the possibility of a snow day.

I thought chocolate pudding was the best pudding. And then my mom made vanilla.

OK, so Disney came out with a "Lion King Special Edition." All they've done really is ruin one of the first scenes in the movie with a song that sucks and doesn't have any point. When will Disney finally leave the classics alone? Not soon enough...

Busy January now that school is starting. This weekend we'll be in Wisconsin for show choir, weekend after that I'll be in Chicago and then the next two weekends are more show choir stuff.

January 3, 2004

last blog for today

This is my fifth blog in two days. Overload!

I'm done updating my portion of the site after having put up my "Links" as well modifying the site so that only the last 10 entries show up. I figure a smaller page is better and easier to load. The archives will have everything you could want if you want to read old stuff.

right to the heart of matters

What I'm Listening To: Counting Crows - Omaha.

Alright. I woke up this morning and realized I forgot to completely redo the archive pages, but it's fixed now and Strong Bad is on every page and the fonts in the blog body are smaller. I think that's a good thing. Tell me if it's not. In addition...are the colors depressing? If they depressed me, I don't think I'd put them on here.

Since my wisdom teeth were pulled, I was pretty much stuck in the house all day. Techonology rescued me as I was able to sit on AIM, monitor football scores and watch Indiana Jones films all from the comfort of my own room. I guess I also wrote an essay for a scholarship and it's pretty coherent for the state I was in.

While digging around I stumbled onto a saved file of all the old blogs on the second-gen CombatRhino site. I'll put it up if you folks want.

My dad was at Walgreens dropping off the mysterious camera and saw David Hasselhoff's Jekyll and Hyde DVD. He decided at five bucks, we had to have it. I haven't watched it yet, but I'm hoping it contains the same stellar acting featured in Knight Rider and Baywatch.

January 2, 2004

mission accomplished

The redesign is complete. All aesthetic changes have been taken care of and I'm also going to add some stuff into my newly added "Links" section. It will showcase the random stuff I look at on the internet excluding the animal porn (kidding, of course). In addition, any blogs older than the previous 10 days will be removed from the main page and put into the monthly archives, still accessible for your enjoyment. That's all for now.

whoops...sorta

I changed the design of my blog. I might change it further, I don't know. I do need a bit of rescuing because I accidentally deleted the other members of CombatRhino from my sidebar. Sorry.

i don't even wanna 'em up in your head

I got my wisdom teeth pulled less than an hour ago. The procedure wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, almost kind of fun. While I was going under from the IV, "Almost Paradise" from Footloose was playing and I thought of Drew.

Belfi got me Bad Boys II for Christmas so I'm watching it right now. It's really cool because I'm recognizing all these places I saw in Miami this summer.

I'm done with Beowulf. Anyone that wants to lend me any of their notes or discussion questions from the previous semester would be my new hero.

January 1, 2004

something more to believe in

What I'm Listening To: Journey - Ask the Lonely. This is a live cut from their DVD.

New Year. 2004. Holy crap. So much has changed in 2003 and the biggest changes in my life so far are coming in a few short months. Much sooner than I want to think about. Part of me is scared shitless because I don't know where I'll be or what I'll be doing by the end of this year. In addition, most of the people I know and care about will be for the most part, out of my life. Gah.

Went to a MW party last night for New Years and saw that they make Dance Dance Revolution for the Playstation, complete with a dance mat. Now I know how those tournament kids train.

While I was in Colorado, I found a disposable camera in my condo that didn't belong to anyone we knew. I decided I would use the 16 pictures (out of 24) left on the camera and be surprised with the first 8 taken. I'm really curious as to what the first few pictures are...
